Born February 1839 in Wiltshire, England.
Came to America 1853, landing at New Orleans.
Worked in Utah, for the Overland Stage Company, and with mountaineers before settling in Harrison County in spring 1864 with his parents (who leased land of Lindley Evans in Cass Township).
Eldest of eleven children.
