Came west to Ohio in 1820, grew to manhood in Portage County, Ohio and learned the shoemaker's trade.
Married there.
Moved by wagon to Fulton County, Illinois in 1837 with brother-in-law Seldon Bond.
Later came to Scott County, Iowa in 1854.
