Peter Hall Sr.
Reared on a Virginia plantation, learned carpentry, moved ~1800 with another family to Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio (then a frontier village).
Later a shoemaker after a fall from a horse disabled him.
Democrat, charter member of an old Virginia Masonic lodge, Baptist.
Died 1850 at age 76.
Had ten children, three living at time of writing: Rebecca (wife of James Gabriel), Peter (the sketch subject), and Abigail (Mrs. Rutan).
