Married Jemima Stow.
In 1798 wrote letters to his wife from Leyden, N.Y., planning with Silas Stow to build a saw mill at the settlement 'No. 11' (frame raised 21 June 1798).
Family removed to the Lowville/Leyden, N.Y. area in 1798, then emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1814.
Postmaster of Cleveland (succeeded by son Irad Dec. 31, 1817).
Later lived in the Cleveland brick homestead built by son Alfred.
