Family removed to Lowville, N.Y. 1798.
War of 1812 veteran (defended Ogdensburg, served under Gen. Harrison at Fort Meigs 1813, pilot to the fleet at Put-in-Bay after Perry's victory).
Followed his brothers to Cleveland in 1812.
Received $1000 from his parents and went into trade with brother Reynolds (letter Feb. 11, 1814).
Early Cleveland landowner/businessman who bought and sold much real estate.
Visited California in 1856 via Isthmus of Panama and bought 100 acres at San Diego.
Died of pleurisy at St. Charles Hotel, New York City, Jan. 21, 1875 (about age 84).
Buried Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland.
Wife Harriet (Pease) Kelley died Feb. 11, 1862.
