Born August 23, 1819, on a farm about three miles north of Wellsville, Columbiana County, Ohio.
Of German descent.
Moved in youth to Rose township, Carroll County, Ohio, where he married.
Came to Williams County in 1847, purchased government land and improved a farm in Florence township (SE quarter of Section 11), his home until death in 1885 at age 65.
Faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for forty years.
One of four brothers: Israel, Wesley and Albert.
Daughter Elmira deceased.
Son William W. resided on the old homestead.
