The Burlington-born quarterback who went from stocking grocery shelves to Super Bowl MVP and the Hall of Fame.
Kurt Warner was born in 1971 in Burlington, Iowa, and played college football at the University of Northern Iowa. Undrafted, he famously stocked shelves at a grocery store and played Arena Football before getting his NFL chance.
He led the “Greatest Show on Turf” St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl title, winning the game's MVP, and later took the Arizona Cardinals to a Super Bowl: one of the great underdog stories in sports. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
Warner's rise from obscurity to football immortality made him a national inspiration and a point of Iowa pride. His story was made into the film “American Underdog.”
