Born 20 May 1810 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Son of Stephen and Ann (Allen) Bagley.
In 1829 (age 19) went to Ohio for one year, then to Earlville, La Salle County, Illinois, where he preempted 80 acres of government land and farmed for 30 years before selling and settling in Earlville.
Came west by ox-drawn covered wagon.
Married Elizabeth Bennett.
