Emigrated to America Sept 1, 1851, landing at New York City after a 7-week sailing voyage.
Lived at Lockport, N.Y. ~4.5 years doing farm labor, then worked 3 seasons on the Erie Canal.
Came to Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, April 7, 1856.
Farmer in Benton township (accumulated 200 acres) plus land in Saline Co., Nebr. and Henry Co., Iowa.
Sold Des Moines Co. farm 1894 and retired to Burlington.
Civil War soldier.
Served in local office.
German-American citizen.
Nine children total (six named before text cuts off): Edward (b.
Mar 5, 1854, of Nauvoo, Ill.).
Nancy (d. age 14 months).
Henry (d. age 21).
