Norwegian immigrant pioneer.
Family emigrated on a sailing vessel, lived near St. Peter about a year, then moved to Hawk Creek township, Renville County in 1870 where he homesteaded 80 acres of wild prairie.
General farmer.
Served as school-board treasurer and town-board chairman.
Active in Hawk Creek Norwegian Lutheran church (first services and first baptism held in his log cabin).
Mr. and Mrs. Berg had eleven children.
His wife died in 1913 at age 79 (b. ~1834).
Two children (an Olaf and a Petra) died on the ocean during the voyage.
One twin (Odena, Anna's twin) died in Norway.
