Very early settler of East Des Moines township.
Laid out the village of Givin in 1870 (named for John Givin of Keokuk) and built its first store that year.
Entered 160 acres just east of Givin on the hill, where he and his wife raised their family.
Both father and mother were buried in Forest cemetery.
The old farm passed to his youngest son, Harry A. Brewer.
