Father of the subject.
Native of New York, a natural mechanic who ran a sawmill.
Removed ~1841 to Scioto County, Ohio, then in 1844 to Washington County, Iowa, settling in a cabin on Smith Creek.
With H.H. Wilson and George Pinkerton built a mill to crush corn-stalks, producing the first molasses made in the county.
Started for St. Louis ~1851 and was last heard from there.
Supposed lost on a wrecked steamboat.
Four children.
