Came to America at age five with parents, located first in Philadelphia, then Ohio (where he was educated and grew up), served in the Civil War.
Moved to Illinois then in 1874 to Audubon County, Iowa, buying 80 acres in Exira township, eventually owning 480 acres.
General farming and stock raising.
First marriage produced son David E. (of Collinsville, Illinois).
Second wife Martha J. Davis bore six children (two died in infancy.
Lucy deceased.
Living: William D., Frank of Audubon township, Leona wife of Fred Kline).
