Born near Hull, England May 7, 1815.
Came to America at age 3, family settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
Married Eliza Linton June 1838 (ceremony by Ephraim Blaine, father of James G. Blaine).
Removed to Iowa 1840 with brother-in-law Nathan Linton.
Merchant in Wapello from 1847.
Dealt in merchandise, cattle, hogs and grain.
Opened a private bank ~1869 that became the Commercial Bank of Wapello.
Grandson R. D. McCullough co-owned the bank.
