In 1849 went to the California gold fields with his father (who died and was buried at Salisbury, MO).
Early-day plainsman who crossed the plains 12 times driving cattle during/after the Civil War.
Lived in Kansas until 1882, then Macon County, MO, then Cooper County (farm in Saline township), and to Sedalia in 1909.
Married at Manhattan, Kan., 1867 to Nancy J. Davis.
Children: Frank H., Mrs. Maggie Gupton, Charles, Deam, George, Mrs. Mattie Hoerl, Oscar (U.S. Army in France), Mrs. May Heckerdt.
