Moved to Kentucky with his father Hugh Evans, then to Highland County, Ohio in 1799, buying land on Clear Creek and becoming one of the county's earliest associate judges.
By wife Mary (Pierce) Evans had fifteen children, twelve living to maturity.
Built the first brick dwelling in Highland County (the 'Ark') in 1809.
