Came to Clinton County, Iowa in 1844, farming north of the later homestead.
In spring 1846 bought 80 acres in Sharon township which he cleared and improved, later acquiring a large farm.
Industrious and a leader in public and political affairs.
Died 1870.
Wife Elizabeth (Carmical), a native of Virginia, later married Thomas Penbold, a Clinton County farmer.
