Pioneer of Crystal Lake (then known as Nunda), McHenry Co., IL.
Born at Pawlet, Vt., Aug. 19, 1809.
Married in Virginia to Caroline Marlow, a native of Loudon County, Va.
Taught school there four years.
Returned to Vermont, came to Illinois in 1839, securing government land at Crystal Lake and a farm in Algonquin Township.
First wife died on the farm in 1854.
Enlisted in Civil War, Company H, 36th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (largely McHenry County men).
Served three years, part in the invalid corps after injury.
Died April 1, 1883, on a farm in Livingston County, IL.
