Worked in NY lumber districts, ran rafts on the Susquehanna River, spent a year in the Newfoundland mackerel fisheries (1871), traveled to the Black Hills (1876), settled in Mills County, Iowa 1877, came to Monona County Sept 15, 1881.
Filed a homestead claim March 10, 1884, proved up July 1889.
Married Sarah E. Counts Oct 3, 1877.
