Born at Danby, Rutland County, Vermont, where his people were farmers.
Orphaned in boyhood and reared by an older brother.
Left Vermont in 1816 and settled on a farm in Norton Township (then part of Portage County), Ohio.
Later moved to Ingham County, Michigan, where he died in 1873 in his eightieth year (birth year estimated ~1793).
Survived one year by his widow.
Daughter Betsey died aged sixteen.
