Eldest of three children.
Reared on a farm in Ontario, worked with his father until 1884.
Came to North Dakota 1887, farmed in Grand Forks county, then located land in McHenry county.
Owner of 2,000 acres and 600-800 head of cattle.
Married 1893.
Republican.
