Born Virginia 1810, crossed the mountains into Ohio in 1815 with his father 'Bud' Massie who settled on a branch of Little McMechen's Creek, Belmont County.
Taught school 17 years, justice of the peace, merchant at Dover/Captina then Powhatan, later farmed on Pleasant Ridge.
Thrice married, Rebecca (Carle) his last wife.
Died July 1889.
Children: William A. (Oregon), George A. (Washington), Alfred E. (York township), Harrison O., Franklin D. (deceased), Mary L. (wife of Aaron F. Ramsey).
