Established family home at Belle Plaine, Iowa, where he ran a knitting machine making hosiery and mittens.
Moved to Cedar Rapids in 1872 continuing the knitting business, turned to merchandising in 1880 (firm Peter Matyk & Son), retired 1895, died Feb 2, 1904 in his 78th year.
Wife (name not given in source) died 1898 aged 69.
