Married Amanda J. Mathews in 1849.
Nine children, five living.
Came to Burlington 1856, ran the gas business as superintendent/secretary/manager/president.
Democrat, then Whig, then Republican.
Free trader and single-tax advocate.
Died Oct. 16, 1896.
Daughter Laura married George H. Patchen.
