Born October 29, 1833 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
Postmaster at Murray, Clarke County, Iowa (assumed office January 1886).
Learned the cabinet-maker's trade at age 18, followed it 15 years.
Went to Rice County, Minnesota in 1853, returned to Ohio fall 1857.
Came to Clarke County, Iowa in 1868, settling in Madison Township as a farmer and carpenter.
Moved to Murray March 1883.
Married twice.
First wife Rachel Neel died spring 1868 leaving three children (John W. and others, list cut off in OCR).
