Born April 10, 1838 in Steuben County, NY, son of David and Clarinda (Shaw) Stiles.
Family moved to Indiana 1853, Adams County, Wisconsin 1858.
He went to Rochester, MN, then to the Rocky Mountains/Idaho 1864-1866, returned to Minnesota 1866 and settled in section 11, Ashley township.
Large-scale farmer.
First chairman of the board of supervisors, ~30 years in town office.
Served in the lower house of the Minnesota legislature 1879.
First Noble Grand of Sauk Centre Lodge No. 34 I.O.O.F.
Active in the Methodist Church.
