The first white settler in the locality.
Built his cabin near the south bank of the Licking River about 7 miles above its mouth in 1790.
Born on the south branch of the Potomac.
Captured by Indians at about age 16, taken to Upper Sandusky, Ohio, held prisoner three and a half years, then released and returned to Virginia.
Married and migrated to Muskingum County.
Built the first hewed log house in the area at the beginning of the 19th century.
Consistent member of the M. E. Church.
Died 1831.
