AMUEL GRAY, deceased, formerly a resident of Reiley, was born September 25, 1817, being a son of Jesse and Mary Gray. The former died May 25, 1874, aged eighty-five years, and the latter died November 20, 1882, aged ninety-three years and one month. On arriving at maturity Mr. Gray married Phoebe Ross, their wedding being celebrated in 1842. They became the parents of three daughters, namely: Mary

Alice, who died July 18, 1847; Marietta, who died May 5, 1855; and Anna Lucretia, whose death occurred January 28, 1863.

July 26, 1853, Samuel Gray married Henrietta D., a sister of R. A. Clark, whose sketch appears elsewhere in this volume. Mrs. Gray was born October 9, 1812, and first became the wife of Edwin D. Clark, who was born February 14, 1817, and died three years after his marriage, May 27, 1846. By the first marriage there were born two children: Sarah Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and James Harvey, who lived to be twenty-four years of age. To the second marriage were born two children, Anna Lucretia and Marietta, both of whom died in infancy, the first-named when fifteen months old, and the latter at the age of nine months. Mr. Gray departed this life May 2, 1886, and his widow is still living at their former home. Though she has passed the eightieth milestone of life’s journey, she is remarkably well preserved and does not appear to be within twenty years of her true age. Though she has seen more trouble and trials than ordinarily fall to the lot of womankind, she is of that cheerful and happy disposition that makes the best of things, and she has hosts of warm friends in this locality.
