Most family research ends up somewhere only one person can follow it. This is for you if someone in your family has:

• Boxes, binders or printed charts nobody else can make sense of
• An Ancestry or MyHeritage tree, or a GEDCOM file
• A written family history that has only ever been a stack of paper

What you get

• A printed hardcover, 6x9, about the size of a regular hardcover, with chapters you read through. Big charts are split across pages, a few generations at a time.
• The researcher's name on it. On the cover and on an about-the-researcher page, because it's their work.
• Their own words, if you'd like. Five short questions, and the answers become a page in the book. Skip it if it's a surprise.
• A PDF of the book, plus the tree organized with an ancestor register and an index of names.
• A second look at the loose ends. We check key facts against the records and look for missing names. Anything we add is marked.

Questions

What form does the research have to be in?

Almost anything. An Ancestry or MyHeritage tree, a GEDCOM file, binders, printed charts or handwritten notes all work. For paper, phone photos are fine. Lay the pages flat in good light so the small print can be read.

Will you fill in missing names?

We'll look for them as we go and check key facts against the records, but we can't promise how many we'll find. Anything we add is marked, so the researcher can see what's theirs and what's new. It isn't a new search. If you want us to trace the family from scratch, that's our research service.

Can you use old family photos?

Yes, send them and they'll go in. Pictures of people almost always come from the family, not from records, so we can't promise to find any. We do look for old pictures of the towns.

Can it stay a surprise?

Yes. Tell us it's a surprise and we'll write only to you. If you can't get the research without giving it away, the gift certificate solves that: they open it, then send us the research themselves.

What about birthdates for people who are still living?

We leave them out of the book unless you tell us you want them in.

Can you ship to Canada?

Yes. Prices are in US dollars. Shipping can take longer, and there may be a customs or tax charge on delivery, so allow extra time for a Christmas book.

Can I change my mind?

Yes. Cancel before we begin and your payment comes back in full. The rest is in our terms.

Is this the Bring Your Own Tree package?

Yes, that's the name on our service page. Same book, same price.
