Cooper, then brewer.
Worked as a cooper until 1866, ran his own cooperage shop employing up to 24 men, entered brewing in Des Moines Jan. 1866, purchased a Burlington brewery from Bauer & Schaffner in 1872.
Closed the brewery in 1888 under State law.
Organized the Granite Brick Company (paving brick) with a $35,000 capital.
Resumed brewing 1892 as the Burlington Brewery, incorporated 1894 as the Casper Heil Brewing Company ($60,000 capital), serving as president.
Married Miss Susanna Ziegenhein in March 1861.
Seven children born of the marriage.
